The History of Shri Guru Ravidass Ji Temple (Foleshill)
Our Temple in 475 Foleshill Road, Foleshill, Coventry, was "born" in October 1996 when senior community members and elders saw a culmination of the combined efforts of the whole community.
All had been saving money, raising money and eagerly kindling their hopes of purchasing a building and converting it into a Temple, for all to worship Guruji and receive His teachings in peace and harmony.
News of a vacant building was discussed and a decision taken to purchase it.Paying a large deposit enabled the purchase of this building and after a brief prayer, work commenced in earnest to convert the warehouse shell, into a real Temple offering prayer, meeting, eating and kitchen facilities. And a car park capable of holding some 35 cars.
Pipes were cut up and dismantled, partitions ripped out, redundant wiring torn out, wooden framing discarded and wholesale changes made to the internal structure of what is now the car park, and what was then an empty warehouse floor area.
After a lot of hard work, communal spirit and shared camaraderie, the community began to see things taking shape.
The car park was much airier, lighter and had an open feel, much like an open space - I suppose just like the feelings a car park should give. The Prayer Hall or Darbar Sahib, was now a proper Hall, having been newly painted, carpeted and with a new ceiling, complete with speakers located in the ceiling tiles.
The Gurus sleeping quarters or Sachkhand Sahib, had a new four poster bed donated by the Sangat, specially for Guruji.
